Tiller-Hewitt has had a long-standing successful partnership with Dayton Children’s Hospital. We launched their first Liaison program over 10 years ago. With the success of the Liaison program, a few years later the organization reached out to Tiller-Hewitt related to new provider onboarding. They were struggling with difficult subspecialty searches, slow ramp-up, retention issues and lack of internal collaboration between the liaisons and practice management. Do any of these difficulties sound familiar? Like many of you, competition is fierce in this market! They are sandwiched between two nationally recognized Children’s Medical Centers – both only about an hour on each side. We launched a formalized Physician Onboarding and Navigation Program. It was a tremendous team effort and the results were off-the-charts! Dayton Children’s has since recruited over “90” pediatric sub-specialists! They have shown measurable improvement in all areas – and subsequently featured in a couple national publications! With so many new providers, new and expanded facilities, Dayton Children’s needed to re-evaluate their outreach (Liaison) program. Again they turned to Tiller-Hewitt to assess and refresh their program. The assessment recommendations were immediately implemented and the subsequent results [...]

Dr. Ray Foley is our special guest in this week's Friday From the Field video. Dr. Foley is both a practicing Gastroenterologist and the President of Penn Medicine - Lancaster Regional Health Physicians (LGHP), a 600+ provider medical group. Over the past few months, we have worked with LGHP to implement a robust Provider Onboarding & Navigation program. In this week's video, we have just wrapped up the launch of the mentorship program with 60 of their providers. Research shows when organizations have a provider onboarding program of one year, including a formal Mentorship Program, both retention and satisfaction increase. A mentorship program also supports organizational commitment to provider wellness. Watch the quick video to hear Dr. Foley's thoughts about the success of their Provider Onboarding initiative. We custom design gold-standard on-boarding and retention programs to meet specific organizational needs. Just as Dr. Foley mentions - LGHP had a Program they wanted to to take to next level, that's when they partnered with Tiller-Hewitt. How can we help you?

As more and more hospitals are employing providers, we need to be mindful of the fact that employed does not always mean loyal, we must work harder in some cases to earn the business of our employed providers than our independent providers. In this week’s Friday From the Field Video, Nancy, a seasoned children’s hospital liaison, details her role as an internal physician liaison. With her hospital growing not only physically, but also in the number of employed providers, her role is vital to ensure all of the physicians stay connected and informed of the ever changing options that are “in the family”. Physician engagement, satisfaction and retention are key factors necessary for a healthcare system to be successful. Effective provider onboarding (NOT ORIENTATION) is critical to achieve them. This starts with a strategic provider onboarding program. At Tiller-Hewitt, we offer a robust Onboarding Program that goes beyond the orientation or even the 1-3 month onboarding provided by many healthcare systems. Our onboardPLUS program follows best practices by delivering ten critical success factors that support improved recruitment, faster practice ramp-up and long term retention.

We polled medical group executives and practice managers to find out how long their provider onboarding process lasts. The result is not surprising – but it is concerning because it’s too short! An effective onboarding and navigation program, effectively executed for at least one year, will enable you to recruit A-Team players, accelerate their ramp-up to full productivity and retain them for the long-term. Check out our video, webinar, case study and other resources to learn how to get onboarding right!
