COVID-19 Elective Surgery: Relaunch and Recovery

2020-05-15T10:35:10+00:00

As healthcare leaders begin to shift their focus to post COVID-19 elective surgery recovery, the resounding question from leadership teams has been "Where do I start?!" Our advice is to start by quantifying the elective surgery backlog and short to mid-term operating room capacity, modeling different scenarios of reopening based on current and expected guidelines and restrictions. With volume and capacity quantified, you can model the time it will take to work through the backlog given your organization's "current state". For many organizations, physicians, and patients, the outputs of this model will be unacceptable. If you find yourself in that situation, you will have the framework necessary to guide the operations work that must be done to find alternative solutions to accommodate the COVID-19 elective surgery backlogs. We have several complimentary resources available to help. If you’re just getting started or need confirmation of your efforts – download a complimentary Rapid Relaunch & Recovery Readiness Checklist and/or listen to the webinar we hosted for hundreds of healthcare leaders. Call us if you need us. We stand ready to help with COVID-19 elective surgery [...]

Who’s on Your COVID-19 Business Recovery Team?

2020-05-08T13:24:17+00:00

Healthcare Leaders – this week’s message is for you. We’re finding many healthcare organizations are shifting their focus to COVID-19 business recovery - so quickly - that they’re missing the critical first step.  Since business recovery is a team sport - Step #1 is building your dream team.  For every missing member - it will cost an organization time, money, and relationships. As the leader, you understand the big picture, next your department leaders understand their service line needs and physician leaders represent their specialty. But who is providing the COVID-19 business recovery team an unbiased representation of all physician specialties and their staff, while simultaneously keeping the communication with them wide open? Hopefully your answer is "my physician liaison or outreach team"! Use their trusted-advisor status to communicate openly, honestly, and frequently with your most anxious group of stakeholders. Don’t let your competitors establish a better collaborative recovery plan. When your customers are anxious, they’re vulnerable. They need to hear from you …often! We have several complimentary COVID-19 business recovery resources. If you’re just getting started or need confirmation of your efforts [...]

2020-05-07T17:17:16+00:00

By Cameron McGregor, MSN, RN, FACHE Chief Strategy Officer, Ms.Medicine Welcome to our guest author, an accomplished healthcare leader and Tiller-Hewitt HealthCare Liaison Legend. Cameron and Tammy Tiller-Hewitt started working together early in Cameron’s career as a liaison at Mercy Health. Their relationship continued as Cameron progressed through leadership roles at Premier Health and beyond. Tammy and her team have successfully executed strategic growth programs at Premier and hundreds of healthcare organizations like them. Cameron and Tammy are frequently featured at national forums on strategic growth and leadership development. We salute Cameron’s commitment to the transformation of women’s health. We have reached an inflection point in women’s medicine and healthcare – it is now central to the cultural dialogue. But change isn’t just about listening and talking. It’s about acting. That’s why we started Ms.Medicine. Ms.Medicine is not your ordinary company. We do not intend to become one. We are elevating the standard of care for women by leveraging an elite network of women's health providers across the country who practice evidence-based care. Not cash based procedures. Not aesthetics. Not medical spas. Those things [...]

COVID-19 Relaunch and Recovery: You Have Questions, We Have Answers

2020-05-07T12:29:20+00:00

COVID-19 Relaunch and Recovery: You Have Questions, We Have Answers Hundreds of healthcare leaders and liaisons joined the recent COVID-19 Relaunch and Recovery Plan webinar hosted by Tiller-Hewitt HealthCare Strategies. Together, we walked through a checklist of 10 questions that are critical to evaluating their organization’s readiness to accommodate the return of elective surgeries, procedures and other deferred care. Questions from attendees reflected concerns that many are experiencing, so we are offering a brief question and answer. Please reach out to us with your questions and ideas on how your organization is addressing these issues. We are offering a complimentary strategy call with leadership teams who want to assess their readiness for living in the reality of COVID-19 for the foreseeable future. Whether operating in an urgent care, clinic or hospital setting, most patients are fearful about the safety of entering your facility. They need confidence that your organization is safe. But, don’t assume you understand the full nature of the “fear factor.” Before you build marketing and communication plans, take the pulse of patients, staff and physicians with a simple [...]

Bring Value While Working from Home

2020-05-01T10:47:28+00:00

Take a look at this week's Friday From the Field video as Tammy Tiller-Hewitt shares another way to bring value while working from home. Do you ever get to a restaurant knowing what you’re going to order, but after looking over the menu you discover another entrée, appetizer, or dessert that you didn’t even know existed?  Yeah - same here! What about the menu of services from your organization? Do all of your practices realize all that your organization offers? Even if you’ve told them once – twice – multiple times, we guarantee they can’t possibly keep up with it all. That’s why we created our Request for Resources. It’s an easy plug and chug template that allows you to create an inventory or “menu” of all that your organization offers providers, their staff, and patients. This is a perfect project to complete while you’re out of the field and allow you to bring value while working from home. Download the Request for Resources template, customize and blast it out to all your practices and referral sources. They can take an inventory of [...]

Planning a Road to COVID Relaunch & Recovery

2020-04-27T15:18:00+00:00

In implementing our Post-COVID Relaunch & Recovery Readiness Checklist, we continue working with healthcare leaders and outreach professionals across the country. Once again, we are reminded why there is no other industry we’d rather be in than healthcare! We’ve heard heartwarming stories of generosity and heartbreaking stories of jobs lost. Every role is being scrutinized and evaluated, including the C-suite and employed physicians. For those liaisons who have lost their job – we are sincerely sorry and prayerful for new and better opportunities. The reality is, we’ve planned for disasters, but not pandemics. Every leader and every organization is dealing with this crisis so differently, because a pandemic is unchartered waters. With that being said – if you missed the COVID-19 Relaunch & Recovery Readiness webinar – download a recorded version and listen for ways you and your organization can start preparing for the recovery phase. A recovery plan should always include the outreach team sitting at the table and at the core of the planning and execution phases. Go through the checklist – then start calling people, scheduling meetings, and collaborating.   https://youtu.be/gtqEyFCD304 [...]

Three Ways Liaisons Can Help Physicians Adopt Telehealth in the COVID-19 Crisis

2020-04-21T23:49:30+00:00

Guest Author: Deborah Scheetz, MSc Welcome to our guest author, who is sharing practical ways liaisons can help physicians adopt telehealth now and for the future. As a former Tiller-Hewitt Trained physician liaison and  Liaison Legacy Super Star, Deborah’s relationship with the team goes back more than five years. When Tiller-Hewitt HealthCare Strategies launched Affinity Medical Center’s program, our Regional Manager Kim Grant provided liaison training.  The Tiller-Hewitt HealthCare team has successfully executed strategic growth programs at both Affinity and Dayton Children’s, where Deborah now serves as Service Line Marketing Director. She has frequently appeared at regional and national forums on using new channels to engage physicians. We salute Deb for seeing and acting on “what’s next” in healthcare. The telehealth genie is out of the bottle, and there’s no going back. In the midst of this pandemic, our team at Dayton Children’s Hospital is hyper-focused on making sure that our referring physicians, as well as our own specialists (employed or independent), are engaged and have a comfort level with video visits. Why? Because this is how we can best serve our patients [...]

Adapting to COVID-19 through Telehealth: How Physician Liaisons can help!

2020-04-17T11:29:14+00:00

We’re being asked by liaisons from across the country, “what can I do to show value during this COVID-19 crisis?”  This week, I’d like to share a video from our friend and colleague, Deborah Scheetz. Deb is the Service Line Marketing Director at Dayton Children’s Hospital, where they have successfully gone toe-to-toe with the crisis by using Telehealth. Even though Telehealth isn’t a new concept, sadly it hasn’t been widely accepted or used …until now.  During this crisis, Deb says, "the Genie is out of the bottle" and virtual visits are the new norm. With more leniency around reimbursement, physicians and APPs are seeing a record numbers of virtual patient visits. Patients have not only embraced, but love the convenience and anxiety reducing benefits of the virtual face-to-face chats with their trusted providers. So you may be thinking – yes, but how can I help? Listen as Deb explains how YOU as an outreach professional can show value. You may also be able to capture great patient stories to share, as well as gather and distribute best practices to providers who haven’t embraced the concept [...]

Physician Liaisons: How to Remain Essential & Deliver Value During COVID-19

2020-04-08T12:03:17+00:00

By Thomas Tiller II, COO By now most physician liaisons have been pulled out of the field, and your organization is in full “COVID Crisis” mode. With new and unforeseen challenges emerging daily, you may have very little time to pursue your 2020 Strategic Plan or the growth strategies you’ve worked so hard to build and started implementing this year. To be sure, the pandemic has redefined what makes the role of a physician liaison essential. Through nearly two decades in the business of developing and executing growth strategies for healthcare organizations, our team at Tiller-Hewitt HealthCare Strategies understands that you may be feeling defeated right now. What we are experiencing is likely a once-in-a- lifetime crisis that will shift the paradigm completely. To quote author Joel Barker, “When a paradigm shifts, everything goes back to zero, your past successes mean nothing.” As ominous as that may sound, I encourage you to stay positive, as I am certain that this paradigm shift will create substantial growth opportunities later this year and beyond. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing practical things you [...]
