The New Better Physician Onboarding: Continuing Mission-Critical Programs
The pandemic did not stop Reid Health’s determination to create an extraordinary new Physician & APP Onboarding, Navigation and Mentorship Program. In fact, the setback turned up their creative juices.
Pre-pandemic, we launched a team of over 70 stakeholders from across Reid Health, including the hospital, practices and urgent care centers. The stakeholders came from departments that play a role in recruitment and long-term retention. Unfortunately, after the first meeting we were forced to take a 90-day pandemic pause. Reid’s number one priority is safety for all.
As we brought the team back together, we started with a Zoom instructional meeting on how to create a value stream (process) map. Next, we set up a virtual (Zoom) classroom to assist with individual department maps. We then reconvened in-person for each department to present and walk through their map. This process is critical because it helps the entire organization understand the whole process, while looking for redundancies and areas of improvement opportunities. This mapping process alone identified over 100 action items to streamline or improve the process for their newly recruited physicians and APPs. That’s progress!
